DevOps, Cloud Native, Open Source, and the ‘ish in between.

092: Kubernetes, Musk, Dorsey, Go, Blame, Serverless, and More

Elon Musk is a weird dude. Amidst the SEC probing into his tweet about taking Tesla private, ol’ Elon decides to smoke a blunt on a podcast with Joe Rogan (the memes are amazing by the way). Not the smartest move. The only thing dumber that happened this week was Alex Jones at the US Capitol accosting Jack Dorsey. Did you know Dorsey fasts every day? Alex Jones is so dumb, he pisses off hangry people. Read more →

054: Kubernetes, Docker is Dead, Friend in Need, KubeCon Videos, and More!

We have been totally buried by snow this week in Michigan. The daily snow forecasts have been underestimated by inches almost everyday. Not a big deal, it’s just a lot of powdery snow early in the winter. It’ll probably be a white Christmas here in the Detroit metro area. Meanwhile, the job hunt is an odd mix of hot and cold. To be honest, I was hoping to have something pretty solid coming back from KubeCon. Read more →

Dan Romlein's KubeCon + CloudNativeCon 2017 Sketch Notes

053: KubeCon, CloudNativeCon, Kubernetes, Looking to 2018, and MORE!

Last week, there was a giveaway of Cloud Native Infrastructure by Justin Garrison and Kris Nova. There’s no need for a giveaway because you can now get Cloud Native Infrastructure FOR FREE! This week’s edition is delayed due to adventures traveling back from Kubecon (salute to those that stood up SIG-Airport). I have to say that Kubecon had some of the friendliest people I’ve met attending, sponsoring, and running it. Read more →

052: 1 Year 🎉, CNI Book Giveaway, AWS re:Invent, Kubernetes, and More!

This is the 52nd issue of DevOps’ish! While the official one-year anniversary is next week, there are 52 weeks in a year and now is as good a time as any to celebrate. In keeping with DevOps best practices, I shared some lessons learned in, Notes on Running a Newsletter: A Year of DevOps’ish. To celebrate the DevOps’ish first anniversary, Kris Nova has graciously offered to sponsor a giveaway of her and Justin Garrison’s new book, Cloud Native Infrastructure. Read more →

DevOpsDays Raleigh 2017 Speakers and Attendees During the Book Club Open Space

DevOpsDays Raleigh 2017 Book Club

As part of the Open Spaces at DevOpsDays Raleigh, the group decided to do a “Book Club” to share interesting books, podcasts, etc. that would be interesting to us DevOps folks. The members of the conversation were Magnus Hedemark (thanks for tweeting all these), Nirmal Mehta, John Willis, Aaron Huslage, and myself. Here is a compiled list from that discussion: The End of Heaven: Disaster and Suffering in a Scientific Age by Sidney Dekker — Accidents and disasters have become technical problems without inherent purpose. 044: Kubernetes, Go, AWS, and Much More

I had the pleasure to travel to our South Florida office this week. I participated in five quarterly planning meetings and Bankrate’s 2nd Hackathon. The quarterly planning meetings were pretty cool. It was interesting to see what all our dev teams were going to be pushing forward with for the year. But, the highlight of the week was the Hackathon. There were some incredibly creative ideas built around the Bankrate platform that I’m sure a few will be brought into our products soon. Read more →
