I got up this morning and was quickly exhausted from pain. I had noticed this exhausted feeling earlier in the week. It was the day of a doctor’s appointment to get injections to fix the mentally distracting nature of constant, chronic pain. I discovered burnoutindex.org, which is a nine-question test to give you an idea of your main risk factors of burnout. My two key elements are self-inefficacy and exhaustion (see my burnout report).

Read more →I actually crossed things off my list this week. The little wins should be celebrated along with the big ones. There is something very therapeutic about erasing a line on a whiteboard or checking a box. That’s not celebration enough though. Make sure if you are doing complicated work that you take a moment to celebrate when it all comes together. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with feeling good about yourself.

JEDI is a $10 billion, single-award, indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract for the largest Department in the US government’s cloud business. The competition had been whittled down to AWS and Azure but, Oracle has been pitching a Larry Ellison sized fit over it. Actually, Oracle has protested JEDI’s selection process almost since its inception.

I was trying to figure out why it’s so damn hard to get a multicloud platform going. People want this for various reasons but, struggle with it. Why? What was I trying to do? Host the DevOps’ish web site where it was less likely to be blocked based on a visitor’s geography.
Read more →I spent the week in Orlando. The first two days for work and the last three for play. This is the second business trip the family has been on with me in as many months. It’s interesting to chaos test your travel routines with weird bookings due to work needs. I try to spend very little time proving who I am or what I do when I travel. I’ve had horrific experiences traveling and I go out of my way to reduce the chances of that happening.
